Recently I watched Groundhog Day for the first time. This weekend is one I could live over and over again! And I know it was just one day, but work with me here!

It started with Friday night. Kevin had already left for UNC, so I had talked to Brittany about having a girls night out. A bunch of crap has been happening recently, and I really just wanted go downtown and have FUN! Brittany decided she didn't want to drink, which I was cool with, so I just went over to her and Kate's apartment to watch a movie. It was probably a good thing we didn't go out drinking, because I ended up being so exhausted, I didn't even make it through the movie! Plus I liked being in a quiet area and not around a bajillion drunk idiots!

Early the next morning the Marching Virginians got into 8 buses and headed down to UNC for the game. I was nervous for this game, our team is very unpredictable this year, but mainly on the not so great side of unpredictable. Despite my doubts, I had my game day pants on Kevin got me and I was ready to go cheer on my team! (With a packed lunch, I am not a fan of the food UNC feeds us!) I even got to sit on the bus with my little sister, Liz! That never happens because of her boy toy, but since he had driven down, I got her! We slept for the most part. We had a pretty chill bus that was barely half way filled. I had decided not to ride the bone bus this time and ride with some of the sisters. Which all in all I thought was a good choice! Except for the fact that our bus driver was a crazy lunatic who shouldn't be driving! I think most of the people on the bus got motion sickness from his driving, and I feared for my life a few times!

We got down to Chapel Hill, and got out to eat. I was very glad I packed my lunch! I enjoyed a sandwich and other goodies while others choked down NC BBQ and yellow cole slaw. At least this year they didn't include the orange weird slop as one of the sides...no idea what that was suppose to be! After we ate, we got dressed and warmed up to go in. It was gorgeous weather for a football game, not too hot, not too cold! It wasn't horrible wearing our uniforms either!

The first half of the game was...not good. The score at half time was 10-3. I hate losing, I think most people hate losing, but I really hate it. It sort of sucks the life out of you. Either way, we had to march a show! So we went down to the field, got in place and then ran onto the field when the time came. WE WERE BOOED!? Yes, the UNC crowd booed us. Who boos a band?! Honestly?! We did our show and got off the field for the UNC band, then went back to our seats. I enjoyed my third quarter apple. It was the one thing going right!

Alex came and got me a little later to go meet the TBS sisters from UNC. They gave us a signed football. Very nice. They had just been installed! We didn't know each other existed either since we're apart of the Northeast District and they are apart of the Southeast District. So we chatted and took pictures, even with the UNC KKPsi brothers! Since then UNC had scored another touch down. BUT, by the time we got back to our seats after all the chit chatting, Tyrod Taylor and the offense were right up near the goal line! This is when the game turned around, and we came back with 17 unanswered points. Now that will get you so excited! It's almost better to win that way, because it was so amazing to come back like that! We were all very excited. Especially after how a lot of the UNC fans treated us. When we got back to the bus we had goody bags from the Alumni Association waiting for us! Then it was back on the bus with a stop for food in Greensboro! A bunch of us ate at Steak n' Shake which is a staple in a Marching Virginian diet! :)

(Monday Dave sent us an email with nice words from our UNC liaison):

Always a pleasure to work with you and your fine students. I must say with all the bands that I host when they come to down, yours is the one I look forward to. Your kids are so polite and respectful (of the grass!!! HA!!) and just plain easy to deal with. And they appreciate the things we try to do and say THANK YOU. Wish some other DIRECTORS from other bands could learn how to say those words. I will mention no names but I am sure you can assume. Over the years there have been some that you never wish to see again but I am always excited when VT comes to town. See you in two years.

(He also sent us a part of the Roanoke Times):

And when it was over, when the Hokies had somehow rallied for one of the most improbable wins in the Frank Beamer era, assistant coach Jim Cavanaugh skipped down the wooded path from the press box like a man half his age, high-fiving Tech fans as he passed. The Tech band lingered in the stands at Keenan Stadium, cranking out "The Hokie Pokey" and "Celebration" and the theme from "Superman," reluctant to pack their tubas till the final festive note was played.

And Beamer?

Well, Beamer danced.

The next day was the day Kevin and I were celebrating our Anniversary! He had surprised me by telling me we were going to Chateau Morrisette!!! I've always wanted to go, and it was the perfect place to celebrate our 3 year anniversary, especially after just turning 21! We got there and were seated for the very end of lunch. We ended up getting an entire dining room to ourselves! We enjoyed Angel Chardonnay along with our Brunch Buffet. It was so gorgeous and nice to be there with Kevin. After we ate we went down to the shop to look around. They were just about to have a tour, and since it was free and not very long, we jumped in and went on it! It was very interesting to learn about the history of the place and how they process the grapes to make the wine. It was also great already knowing how wine is made from my Geography of Wine class! After the tour we did their wine tasting. $5 to taste 10 wines and keep the glass! Awesome! It was very interesting to learn that I like more of the dry wines, and Kevin is more of a sweet wine guy. But we did end up buying some Blushing Dog which we both liked! :) We shall enjoy that on Saturday during the Nebraska game!

I had such a good time, it was a very successful anniversary! :) I hope I get to go back there sometime!
