After the tiredsome and seemingly never ending week last week, I also had a busy weekend. The busy weekend was going to start Thursday evening with a Band-a-rama practice, but luckily it got canceled due to bad weather. So the weekend began Friday morning at 8am instead.
This past weekend was Honor Band weekend. It's where a bunch of little middle schoolers and high schoolers from far and wide (Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and I think I met someone from North Carolina) come to Virginia Tech to audition and play in various bands in a learning experience. These are some of the best players from each school getting together. Then at the end of the weekend they throw a concert for their families and directors and such. The three music organizations (Tau Beta Sigma, Kappa Kappa Psi, and Delta Omicron) help to run the weekend. Being in Tau Beta Sigma, naturally I was there. I helped to escort the arriving students to their various warm up areas before their auditions. So much fun! When I left at noon, students were still arriving, and they had to have their auditions done soon, because which band you were in was posted at 1:45. I went out with Kevin for lunch, which was a nice break from anything resembling work, since I was on my way to work.
Later it was time for Band-a-rama. Yes, it was still on even though we had not practiced for it. But we had just done one this past September, so it ran pretty smoothly anyway. But it was nice to be done with it and go home and hang out with Kevin the rest of the night.
The following morning it was more honor band. I had to take the piccolos and saxophones from Haymarket over to their master classes, and then sit and wait until they were finished just in case they needed something. Oh that was a joy. But the saxes made pretty sounds from their room, so that was nice to listen to. I was relieved to be done with that.
I got to go home and nap before I had to get ready for Band Banquet, better known as Bandquet in the bandie world. This is where we all get together with dates and are all dressed up and celebrate the end of the season. There are awards and food and dancing. Best of all, my dad, better known as Slide-show-Bob, puts on a slide show of all the pictures he has taken throughout the season. I got a few of my pictures in this season! :) It was a lot of fun. I wore my prom dress from my senior prom. I was excited I still fit in it!
Sunday TBS and KKY all got together again and had lunch with our district officers. They were visiting us because we have districts at Virginia Tech this year! That was the most hilarious lunch I've had in a while. First it started that those of us at my table (Lisa, Sarah, and Stephanie and me) were pretty hungry, and the district officers were pretty late (they were in a meeting before lunch and it ran late), but we were told only to order drinks, not to order any sandwiches yet. So we ordered a con ceso! It's an appitizer, and not a sandwich. We decided we needed to build a fort on the edge of our table to others would not be able to eat our appitizer. So we made the fort out of menus. It was really random looking, but it worked. The district officers finally showed up and we ordered our sandwiches, the table beside us got their food before us and I saw an abandoned pickle laying on a plate all alone. So I told Lisa to steal it for me. She decided she wanted some of it too and tried to break it in half, that didn't happen...so we each took an end and bit into it. Lisa goes, "Two Girls One Pickle!" It was funny. A ton of other stuff happened that might not be too appropriate to put up on this PG blog, but just believe me, it was funny. The waitress we were sure to give a big tip, and it was almost 50% tip from me and Sarah! There was probably 30-40 of us there. So it was madness!
You must be thinking, well, that was Sunday so it was probably the end of her long weekend. Well, you would be WRONG! Because Monday was MLK day and we did not have class! So Tau Beta Sigma got together and had a "brunch." I made Preacher Cookies (YUMMMM) and Corn Bread for the Brunch. It was a very yummy and fun brunch. If this was a preview of what retreat will be like, then it will be quite fun! Though I'm sure it is usually fun, but last time I went I was a pledge, so it's probably different now that I know everyone and that I'm a sister.
That was the end of my weekend.
I love having only three days of classes this week! I'm going to the nationally televised VT vs. Duke Basketball game tomorrow with Dawn! So that should be fun, even though I hate basketball. :)
